Sports and recreation

The history of Thakurgaon stadium is mostly about the history of football. From 1940 to 1970, he represented the town club in Thakurgaon football, which was born in 1911 with a group of young people. After the independence of Bangladesh, a football team from Thakurgaon went to India in 1973 to play. As a sign of friendship, the football team goes to play at the invitation of the country's sports body. Thakurgaon XI also plays football in Cooch Behar, Siliguri, Jalpaiguri and Islampur in India. All the teams participating in various football leagues and other football competitions organized under Thakurgaon Jail Sports Association are: Town Club, Tangan Sports Club, Thakurgaon Samiti, Tangan Sports and Literary Parliament, Uttaran Sports Club, Agamni Sporting Club, Unity Club, Unity Club. Suryasena Sports and Cultural Parliament, Ruhia Pragati Sangha, Ruhia Abahani Sports Club, Hajipara Sports and Literature Parliament, Sarkarpara Azad Club, Thakurgaon Stadium Club, Dishari Sporting Club, Jagrat Youth Association, Vijay Sporting Club, Bochapur Sangsad, Renaissance Sporting Club, Thakurgaon Road Youth Sangsad, Tarun Sangha, Paschim Ashrampara Yubsangha, Tuku Smriti Sangsad, Gareya Union Parishad Sangsad, Naboday Sangha. Thakurgaon, especially the Majid Challenge Shield and Kamaruddin Ahmed Runners Up Cup football tournament has been organized quite pompously. In the 1940s, the Majid Challenge Shield football tournament was started here in the name of Abdul Majid, the then sub-divisional administrator of Thakurgaon. Thakurgaon District Sports Association organizes football league every year.

ঃ Cricketঃ

The history of cricket in Thakurgaon district is not very old. The practice of cricket started here in the mid-fifties. After the partition of India in 1947, Pakistan entered the world of cricket as a separate country. The international cricket venue was then the only one in Dhaka. Gradually when the light of cricket spread all over the country, some cricket-mad people tried to establish the game of cricket in Thakurgaon. After independence, Mim Memorial Cricket Tournament was held in Dinajpur. The name of the Thakurgaon cricket team was entered, but the players used to go to Dinajpur in an open truck in the winter morning to participate in the tournament by collecting cricket equipment with the money collected on their own initiative. Since 1986, Thakurgaon has become a zonal venue of national and youth championships. Till 1996, Thakurgaon organized district level games with great success. Cricketers from Bangladesh Railway, BKSP, Rajshahi University, Sylhet and Chittagong districts play cricket at this Thakurgaon ground. In 2004, Thakurgaon District Sports Association became the divisional champion in the under-15 cricket tournament. At that time the game was held in Natore. In the same year, Thakurgaon Riverview High School became the runners-up in the Divisional School Level Cricket Tournament. Organized by Thakurgaon District Sports Association, the tournament was attended by various organizations from Thakurgaon district as well as from many surrounding districts.

Badminton:

In winter, badminton is played all over the city. Several organizations, including the district sports body, organize the competition every year.

Table Tennisঃ

There is not much practice of playing table tennis. However, table tennis is played at Thakurgaon Public Club. Table tennis is also played at Thakurgaon Government College, Government Women's College, Thakurgaon High School, Girls School and Town Club. Thakurgaon has a number of table tennis players who have made a name for themselves as good table tennis players in colleges and universities.

· Hockey

Hockey did not play well in Thakurgaon. However, it is particularly noteworthy that Thakurgaon is proud of Sheikh Ramiz. Sheikh Ramiz, son of Dr. Sheikh Farid of Hajipara Mahalla in the city, is currently one of the best players in the Bangladesh national team. Sheikh Ramiz has established himself as a skilled hockey player by participating in hockey competitions abroad. The first hockey game was started in 1965-6 at Thakurgaon High School and Thakurgaon College. Thakurgaon High School participated in inter-school competitions several times.

· Basketballঃ

At present, basketball is not played much in Thakurgaon. However, before independence, there was an opportunity to play basketball in Thakurgaon. In the seventies, there was a basketball court behind the main building of Thakurgaonhai School.

Athleticsঃ

Thakurgaon district has been organizing inter-school and college athletics every year. Tojammel Haque Monju, an athlete from Thakurgaon district, set a record in high jump. In 1974, he became the Bangladesh champion in the high jump. Thakurgaon High School declared a 7-day holiday.
