Details

According to the year engraved on the body of the mosque, the mosque was built in 1317 BS, meaning 1910 AD. Designed in the style of Mughal architecture, the mosque was built by Zamindar Meher Boks Chowdhury.

The work started with an architect brought from Murshidabad in the Agra sect of Delhi, but the construction of the mosque was halted due to the sudden death of the chief architect. Meher Box resumed the construction of the mosque with the help of local artisans but the local artisans were reluctant to build the dome of the mosque. Meher Boks Chowdhury died in 1910.

A few years later, Meher Box's younger brother took the initiative to build the mosque again. But he also died without completing the construction work. As a result, the mosque has stood without a dome for 100 years. Finally, under the patronage of Meher Boks Chowdhury's great-grandson Tasrifa Khatun and with the technical assistance of the Archaeological Institute, the renovation work of the Balia Mosque began in 2010. At the same time, the dome was designed in a new way by the architect Syed Abu Sufian Kushal.

Reasons for naming the mosque of Zvin:

One of the new moon nights is the time when the jinn-fairies like to fly over this area. Then they came down to the ground and stopped the construction of the mosque. Meher Box resumed the construction of the mosque with the help of local artisans. But local artisans failed to build the dome of the mosque. Meher Boks Chowdhury died in 1910.

One of the new moon nights the jinn-fairies like the area when they fly over the area. Then they came down to the ground and started building the mosque, but left the work uneven as it was dawn before the dome was built. As a result, the magnificent mosque stands without a dome. It was built by the jinn-angels, hence it is known to the locals as the mosque of jinn.

The response to the century wall mosque was correct when it is not known. But locals say the mosque is 150 to 200 years old. Initiatives were taken to renovate the mosque in 2003. But due to lack of funds it was not possible to renovate the mosque. Then in 2010, the mosque was renovated in 2010 on the personal initiative of Fisheries Socialist Feroz Hasan. However, if the mosque is renovated, it will become a tourist destination.
